Growing Sprouts for Wellness

Hope you're having an amazing week! Today I want to share with you my latest hobby. It has given me a newfound appreciation for the miracle of Nature.

With the hope of an outside garden still a month away I decided I would start growing my very own organic sprouts.  When I first heard about growing sprouts, I thought it was more complicated than it actually is.  

A few months ago, I picked up a book about sprouts. I was surprised to learn about how nutrient dense they are. The nutrients of various sprouts are much denser than the adult plant. You can sprout various seeds, legumes, and beans. There are so many options!

They're surprisingly easy to grow at home. I got myself a couple of mason jars with mesh lids and some organic seeds. With that I was ready to grow my very own sprouts.

Here are the top three benefits of sprouts:

  1. Helps with digestion
    Sprouts contain an unusually high content of living enzymes. These enzymes further help in boosting your metabolic processes and improve chemical reactions within the body, specifically when it comes to digestion. Enzymes help break down the food effectively and enhance the absorption of nutrients by the digestive tract. Sprouts also have a lot of dietary fiber which regulates digestion. 
  2. Boosts blood circulation
    Sprouts help in boosting your blood circulation by maintaining your red blood cell count with significant amounts of iron and copper. This further helps in supplying oxygen to various organs and cells to optimize their performance. 
  3. Builds your immune system
    Sprouts have a high vitamin C content that makes them a powerful stimulant for the white blood cells in the body to fight off infections and diseases and thus, help build your immunity system. They also have abundant vitamin A. Vitamin A has a number of antioxidant properties that make it a great source of immune system strength.

You can use sprouts on salads, in smoothies, and sandwiches. You can also have them on their own. There are many varieties of sprouts you can choose to grow. Most take 5-7 days, though the growing times can vary depending on the type of seed you're sprouting. Some varieties have a little more spice to them. I highly recommend giving a few varieties a try and see which ones you like best.
