Litter is a simple fix, switching to a natural litter or bedding. Cat litter that clumps are no doubt more convenient, but it contains chemicals that are bad for the environment and can be dangerous for your cat. Cat litter can also be made with recycled newspapers, sawdust, and corncobs!

It’s as simple as picking up your dog’s waste when they go. Picking up all waste you see, your animals or not, is also a great way to help reduce the risk of diseases that can affect your dog and even yourself. Be sure to always dispose of your dog’s waste and dispose of it properly; when purchasing waste bags, be sure they are biodegradable. Dog food especially isn’t the best for the environment, it is processed which in turn uses fossil fuels; the food is then processed and shipped out to grocery stores.
Amazon has a variety of brands of dog bags that are all 100% biodegradable
Adopt Don't Shop
If you’re looking into getting a pet of your own, consider getting a pet from a rescue organization instead of a breeder and adding to the environmental complications of overpopulation.
According to the ASPCA, an estimated 6.5 million companion animals enter U.S. animal shelters nationwide every year. Think about giving an animal who already needs a home somewhere tolive and love instead of getting your pet from a breeder. You can search on PetFinder for a local animal shelter near you. We at Green Body love to bring awareness to homeless pets' and encourage prospective pet owners to adopt from animal shelters.
Buy Sustainable Pet Food
There are plenty of cheap foods on the market for your pet, these are usually made with animal byproducts. While your pet may enjoy these foods, they may not be healthy for your animal or the environment. There are plenty of healthier and environmentally friendly alternatives on the market, but your pet’s health should come first. There are many diets that your animals can try, just be sure to talk to your vet before switching up your pet’s diet. Open Farm has dozens of different dog foods for your dog to try that are all sustainable.
Love and treat your pets right, they strive every day to make you happy, so why not help them feel better while also helping out the environment. The world is going greener, and so can your pets.
